Shepards Wharf supports solo ocean racing campaign

Shepards Wharf Marina is one of several Isle of Wight sponsors for up-and-coming British sailor Lizzy Foreman, who aims to fulfill her quest for adventure and love of sailing by competing in the prestigious Mini Transat.

Whenever Lizzy comes to Cowes, she is assured of a berth for her Mini 6.50 and a very warm welcome at Shepards Wharf, with as many cups of tea as necessary to help her race preparations along!

Manager at Shepards Wharf, Jock Rafferty, said: “We are really proud to be sponsoring Lizzy and look forward to seeing her here again soon at Shepards. We want to support her as much as we can in the run up to the 2015 Mini Transat. Racing solo over 4,000 miles across the Atlantic in a boat only 6.5 metres long is a huge challenge that’s not for the faint-hearted and we admire her courage and commitment.”

Lizzy brought us up-to-date: “After a very full season of racing, fundraising and ultimately becoming a qualifier to the 2015 Mini Transat race, I am now working towards the coming season with boat and sail preparations well under way. It is customary in the Mini Transat fleet to be very hands on and I have recently spent time at the Solo Sails loft in Cornwall with ex-Mini sailor Andrew Wood making my sails. I’m now back in Brittany to start training and working on the boat again.”

All the best with the preparations Lizzy, and we look forward to seeing the new sails on the water next year. For full details of Lizzy’s campaign, visit lizzyracing.com.
