Marine apprenticeship opportunity

Cowes Harbour Commission is offering an exciting ‘Marine Operative’ apprenticeship, providing a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain extensive knowledge and a valuable qualification in a challenging and rewarding industry.

This apprenticeship will cover all aspects of the commercial and statutory operations that are associated with a busy harbour. The successful candidate will acquire experience in a variety of tasks associated with marina and boatyard operations, major event organisation and commercial operations including many aspects of maintenance on moorings, quays, and vessels. The candidate will earn an industry-recognised award as a result of successfully completing the apprenticeship that is assessed in the workplace only. No days required at college and you earn while you learn!

The apprenticeship takes between 18-24 months to achieve and is designed with a mix of learning outcomes, some relating to underpinning knowledge and others to competence. Training will be provided by experienced staff from across all of Cowes Harbour Commission’s sites, and students will be evaluated by a college assessor on-site on a 6-12 weekly cycle.

To be eligible for the apprenticeship, students must be aged between 18-24 and have achieved at least GCSE grade ‘C’ or above for English and Maths. Applications are welcome from all students with an interest in the marine environment, and who are keen to learn and progress in the marine sector. Relevant experience is an advantage but not essential. Applications close on 16th March 2018.
