Harbour Services Operative required

Cowes  Harbour Commissioners require a Harbour Services Operative to fill a temporary part-time position from May to September/October 2014 (including weekends, bank holidays and unsocial hours). 

The successful post holder will be required to answer VHF radio and telephone calls from customers, operate the Cowes Harbour Commission water taxi service and ensure people’s safe passage whilst aboard the water taxi. The job also involves assisting in the efficient and safe mooring of all vessels, including meeting and directing them to appropriate berths, and the collection of mooring fees and passenger landing charges. 

A variety of other tasks are included in this role, including boat and general maintenance duties. You will enjoy working with the general public, be self-motivated, versatile and enthusiastic, and committed to maintaining high standards at all times. You will be organised, a good communicator, be honest, reliable and punctual. You will be physically fit, enabling you to cope with working long hours outdoors. It is essential that you possess a VHF Radio Licence and an Isle of Wight Council Boatman’s Licence and have had previous cash handling experience. Flexibility within the rota is essential. A uniform, PPE and training will be provided.
