Emergency response training exercise

On Friday, 24th November, Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) afloat teams from Kingston Marine Services and Shepards Wharf Marina underwent a day of emergency response refresher training covering oil spill response, vessel towing, fire fighting, and man overboard rescues.

CHC’s working vessels Seaclear and Seamark, along with one of our patrol RIBs and Duver workboats were manned by the teams and used in a range of emergency scenarios. The practical exercises tested a range of equipment, techniques, and support procedures in order to maintain the knowledge and skills involved in dealing with emergencies afloat.

The teams worked through a number of potential emergency situations, utilising for example, inflatable oil containment booms, a surface skimmer used to collect waterborne oils and pump pollutants into a safe storage container, and man overboard rescue equipment.

This training forms part of a regular programme designed to ensure that CHC staff are capable of assisting in an emergency situation in the harbour.
