The replica of Peter the Great’s first warship, the frigate Shtandart, originally built in 1703 in St Petersburg, will be visiting Cowes Harbour from 4th to 6th September.

The Shtandart will be moored at Trinity Landing in Cowes from 1800 on Friday evening, 4th September and remain there for the duration of the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s Windsor Cup Sailing Regatta.

For those interested in an 18th century frigate, we are pleased to say Capt Vladimir Martus has confirmed that the Shtandart will be open to the general public, at Trinity Landing, from 1000 to 1700 on both Saturday, 5th and Sunday, 6th September. A small donation of £2 will be requested to visit the ship.

Following on from the Shtandart’s visit to Cowes Harbour, the BBC will be filming on board at Poole for a documentary about the Romanov Tsar Dynasty. The Shtandart will remain in Poole Harbour until 8th September when she then sets sail for Cherbourg.

The history of the Shtandart began 300 years ago, upon orders from Tzar Peter and governor Menshikov, when the construction of the first Russian ships for the new Russian Navy began, in which Shtandart became the flagship. The recreation of the modern frigate Shtandart is also a fascinating story of realising a dream and is well told on the ship’s excellent website.
