Commissioner profile on Roy Lambden

Commissioner for Personnel Management, Roy Lambden, was appointed to the Cowes Harbour Board in May of this year, along with Michael Greville and Ben Board.

Roy Lambden had a 30-year career in the City, working in various areas of finance around the world, accumulating considerable experience in managing personnel for large companies. He has also spent 15 years as a retained fire fighter and 10 years as an emergency first responder. “During my time in the Fire Service, I would typically attend around 10 to 20 calls a month, dealing with anything from road traffic accidents, house and factory fires, to barn and field fires – and even animal incidents.”

A previous Chairman and CFO of a UK sailing trust, and currently director of a Cowes-based sailing business, Roy obtained his Yachtmaster Offshore commercially endorsed in 2009 and now keeps his Sigma 38 in Cowes. The Sigma 38 is raced in the Island Sailing Club’s Tuesday Evening Race Series, as well as some RORC races, and Roy also took part in the first ARC Channel Islands cruise this summer.

Roy said: “My family and I have enjoyed living in Cowes for the past 10 years and as a keen sailor I take a great interest in the running of the harbour, the challenges it faces and its future development.“

Roy brings project management, business management and finance skills to his role, and added: ”As Commissioner for Personnel Management, it’s my role to encourage best practice and to help ensure that CHC’s management culture motivates its staff and gives them the training and skills required to deliver the Commission’s statutory duties and strategic objectives.”
