Classic racing in Cowes

Entries are booming this year for Panerai British Classic Week (18th-25th July), which looks set to be an exciting regatta with many classic yachts coming from around the world to race in the Solent. A six race series gets going this weekend from the Royal Yacht Squadron line. Full details of racing will be distributed to the commercial harbour users via the organising club’s Race Notification document 24hrs prior to the event; details are also available in the Sailing Instructions on their website. In addition, the special ‘Around the Island Race’ is on Monday, 20th July and a ‘Parade of Sail’ will take place on Saturday, 25th July.

Starting next Monday, 20th July, is the increasingly popular Charles Stanley Cowes Classic Week with racing taking place between 20th and 24th July from the Royal London Yacht Club line or from a committee boat in the Solent. Full details will be distributed to the commercial harbour users by the RLYC in the Race Notification document 24hrs prior to the event.

During these events, heavy concentrations of sailing vessels of all types will be racing in the Solent, in the approaches to Cowes Harbour, Southampton Water and within the Precautionary Area. Mariners should be particularly vigilant and should maintain an efficient lookout for large vessels and sailing vessels and, at all times, navigate with extreme caution in the area.
