Cowes Harbour Commission is looking to recruit an additional Assistant Harbour Master / Pilot to support and provide cover for the Harbour Master’s team. Rod Hodgson, the current Deputy Harbour Master will be taking up a new role with another port in January. 

Reporting to the Harbour Master, responsibilities will include compliance with all aspects of the Port Marine Safety Code and associated statutory legislation, as well as being on call as a Cowes Pilot for a period of 10-15 days per month.

The successful candidate would ideally have a Class 1 Certificate of Competency, although alternative qualifications with recent relevant ship handling experience will be considered to fulfil the Pilot function. 

Cowes Harbour Commission also owns and operates a number of marine businesses and experience of business management would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to reside on the Isle of Wight.
